Hmm, good question Timo. I have seen two very different strategies on this topic, and both are valid and successful.

Most big blogs (or lists) post quality content every day — sometimes even more frequently than daily. Obviously this works. They're big blogs right? :)

But then other people are very successful publishing or posting something weekly, monthly or even only every six weeks (!). And, thing is, some of these folks also have tens of thousands of subscribers.

I think the secret lies in producing and sending out high-quality content. Do people want to read what you write? Is your article solving some real problem? Do people get more than they expected from your article? Are you selling them in every article or do you give away useful free advice?

In my opinion, remarkable content makes all the difference.

So true!

Ultimate asset ... I like that :)

I have to admit that I haven't taken too much time to build my list as much as I could, but that is now changing.

Do you think there should be a content strategy/scheduling when building your list (the same way you would have for a blog), like how many times per week you send content to your list, what type of content to send ... ?

Cheers,
Timo

There seem to be a lot of pretty expensive products listed here. I looked at the Empire Builder Kit, $149. Since my own mini-empire is a conglomeration of ecommerce, MFA and blogging, I didn't see anything to convince me to take the plunge. I am not sure how you can recommend a product you haven't tried yourself.

Dear Dries,

I just signed up to your blog. I run a web development shop in Argentina and I am tired of relying on other people to get the job done. I am willing to put my name out there and create a product that people can trust and follow, but my concern is basically about location. How can I be successful when I live so far away from the market I am planning on targeting (US)?
